Help

Answers to common questions, and a person whenever you need one.

However you found this page

Write to hello@inamber.ai. A person reads every message. At the moment that person is Ravs, who started inAmber.

How soon you will hear back

Anything about a delivery, someone who has passed away, a child, or something that feels wrong: the same day, before anything else.
Everything else: within one working day.

There is no chat window and no ticket number. Just a reply from someone who has read what you wrote.

If a message will not open, or something has gone wrong with a delivery, say so in the subject line and we will look at it first. Nothing is deleted while we are looking into it.

Common questions

What is inAmber?

You record messages for the people you love, and we deliver each one at exactly the right moment in their lives, even if you are no longer here.

What is in a pack?

Fifteen messages for one person: life moments to guide you, plus your own. You can write, record your voice, or film each one.

Can I write to more than one person?

Yes. Each person can have their own pack, and the same pack can be bought more than once, for two daughters or four grandchildren. A group pack sends one recording to everyone you name. Family of four (any three packs) and Generations (any eight) are the best value for several people.

How do I choose when a message arrives?

Give it a date, such as Christmas morning or an eighteenth birthday, or a moment “if and when” it happens, such as a wedding morning. For those moments, your Guardian tells us when the day has come.

What is a Guardian?

Someone you trust to tell us when an “if and when” moment has arrived. They never see your messages, and they can step down at any time.

Who is Amber?

Amber is our guide. She asks you good questions and helps you find your own words. She never writes for you.

What does sealing mean?

Once sealed, a message’s words, recordings and photographs cannot be changed. Until it is delivered you can still change the day it arrives, and you can watch or listen to it whenever you like.

Can I delete a message?

Yes, before its day, from inside the message, with your password. Its place in the pack comes back so you can make it again. Once delivered, it belongs to the person it was for.

Does the person I write to pay anything?

Never. Receiving is always free.

How does it reach them?

On the day, we email them a private link and they open it in inAmber. A message for someone under eighteen goes first to the parent or guardian you named, who chooses the moment to hand it over.

How long do you keep messages?

We keep and deliver them for up to twenty five years. At least ten pence of every pound you pay is set aside to fund delivery and nothing else.

Can you read my messages?

We hold the key so that we can deliver them. We do not read them. The privacy policy explains how.

What do I need to record?

A phone or a computer with a camera and microphone. You can check yours first, and headphones help, though they are not needed.

Is inAmber only for when someone is unwell?

No. It is for living people who love someone: a parent writing for an eighteenth, a partner for an anniversary, a grandparent for Christmas morning.

Can I pay in my own currency?

Yes. Checkout shows the price in your currency.

Can I give a pack as a gift?

Gift packs are coming soon.

Can I get a refund?

You can cancel within 14 days of paying by emailing hello@inamber.ai, as long as you have not yet started a message. Your pack begins when you start your first message, and from then it can't be cancelled. When we refund a pack, it closes and nothing in it is delivered. If anything we provide isn't right, we will put it right or refund you.

If you are a recipient

Somebody left something for you and it will not open. The most common reasons are simple ones: the account was set up with a different email address from the one it was sent to, or the link has been forwarded from somebody else.

Tell us the address the email arrived at and we will find it. You will not lose anything while we do.

If you have been asked to be a guardian

You can step down at any time and you do not have to give a reason. Write to us and we will let the person who asked you know, so they can ask somebody else.

If you have been asked to confirm something and you are not sure, do not answer. Ask us instead. It is far better to wait than to release something early.

If someone has passed away

Write to us with the person’s name and your relationship to them. We will explain what happens to their messages, and what we need from you. There is no rush at our end, and we will not chase you.

Before anything is delivered after someone has passed away

When a Guardian tells us the time has come, nothing is sent straight away. First, one of us replies to the Guardian to check. Then we contact each person a message is for, gently, to tell them what is coming and who it is from, and that they can open it today, in a year, or not at all. If they would like someone with them when they open it, we will be on the other end of the phone.

There is no charge for this, and nothing is ever sold to anyone at that moment.

If a message was started and never sealed

We never deliver half a message, and we never quietly delete one. If someone passes away with a message still unfinished, we contact their family and offer three choices: deliver it as it is, with a note saying it was unfinished; keep it safe for as long as they like; or delete it. There is no charge, however long the decision takes.

Messages for anyone under eighteen

Nothing reaches a child directly. A message for someone under eighteen goes first to the parent or guardian the sender named, who chooses the moment to hand it over. If anything about a message for a child worries you, write to us and it will be read the same day.

Deleting

You can delete a message before its day, from inside the message, with your password. Its place in your pack comes back. Once a message has been delivered, it belongs to the person it was for. If you received a message, you can remove it from your messages at any time. When something is deleted it is gone for good. We cannot bring it back, and nobody is told.
